Stereotype

Salam blogger,

Today am going to talk a bit about stereotype, a type of people who, by any mean, try to generalize a a certain object or people with something which probably not accurately right and wrong. Put it in simple, they like to judge people, in their own theory, their own mind set, well at least that's what i understand about them until now.

I read this one Malay novel, and it included some about today's topic. The case that happened in the book, is not really that surprising for Malaysians.. which was about races, discrimination; Chinese and Malay. I take this subject a bit more serious than other readers. I too don't really don't know why but ever since i learn about this world, all i can see is there will always be discrimination in any different ways in our life. In fact, it really does happen too often until people can't even tell whether that thing is 'it' or not. It is hardly for us to differentiate which is right and wrong.

In which chapter and page, the writer wrote about the main character's past. The boy's mother is actually a mualaf (a person who converted into Islam), a Chinese-Muslim. But in order to adapt to the surroundings and whatever..so, she actually left all those Chinese's customs, and practices all the Malay's custom after married to that boy's father. The only thing that represent her as a Chinese is her only sepet eyes and her yellow skin. That's all. Even that boy was only realized him being a son of a Chinese woman was after hearing from his uncle mouth, in the most horrible way.

His childhood days turned out as hell as he was treated like bullshit, no different to animal. He was brought up brutally, a lot of abusive backgrounds... the book contains a lot of the abusing scenes which the writer have made it sounds really real. He was treated badly both at home and school. This was mainly because of him having a Chinese blood flow in him. Practically he IS a Chinese, and  others could not accept him (and his family) because of that, by saying that Chinese as dirty ,disgusted people which they eat pork. Poor them. This really shows that others are not act matured enough and their mentality not reach the average. Okay, I'm being harsh, but it can't be acceptable. People can't simply being stereotype on them just because them being a Chinese.

Malays often mistook the existence of Pig/pork in Chinese's cuisine..Well, it is pork which Muslim/Malay are forbidden to eat, but people should not just made a judgement and well, create a new kind of perception that may lead to a discrimination act. I also have my own judgement on other races but i really don't discriminate them, well, most of the time. But I'm trying to be a better person by avoiding this kind of matters. It may seem hard enough for our people to completely free from being stereotype and the act discrimination, but at least, try to have an effort to do so. Don't show any discouragement in other people's life, because it's just the way they live. We can't just simply change their way of living. We have to respect each other and gain strong bond between us,so that we can reach the harmony life.

Thanks to Naomi Cob Nobler for her book, Bayang. She had exposed a lot about this topic, and also about schizophrenia. It's a nice book.
